Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis (otherwise known as trance) is a natural state similar to daydreaming which has been around for centuries, although for many people it is still surrounded by an air of mystery, so I will dispel a few myths. However please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

  • Hypnosis is a safe, natural, drug free state.
  • Everyone can be hypnotised providing they want to be, and as long as they are not
    under the influence of drugs.
  • You are not asleep, hypnosis is like daydreaming, you are awake just deeply
    relaxed.
  • Don’t expect to feel ‘hypnotised’. Trance is a normal, natural state which we go in
and out of daily (like when we are engrossed in a TV programme or a good book).
  • You remain in control of everything you do and say. You will only accept
suggestions in line with your values and beliefs.
  • You are fully able to communicate with your therapist, and can choose to stop at
    any time.
  • You cannot get stuck in trance. Your unconscious mind is your greatest protector,
if for any reason you wanted or needed to ‘awaken’ then you would be able to do
    so immediately.

A skilled Hypnotherapist utilises the state of hypnosis to communicate directly with the unconscious (also known as subconscious) part of your mind to make the positive behaviour changes that you want.

Essentially we have two parts to our mind – a conscious part which is responsible for logic, reasoning, willpower, and learning new skills (when we learned to tie our shoelaces or drive a car we had to think consciously about every step of the process until it became an unconscious or automatic behaviour). Our conscious mind is also aware of what we are currently doing.

However the conscious part of our mind works by constantly accessing information from the unconscious part which is where everything that has ever happened to us is stored. The unconscious part is also responsible for body functions (breathing, blood circulation, healing etc) beliefs, habits, emotions, memories, instincts, imagination and protection.

Therefore when we want to change a belief, habit, behaviour or emotional reaction it is much quicker and easier to communicate directly with the part of our mind in charge of that task. To try to make changes at a conscious level is a difficult and long winded process with limited success because we become frustrated and despondent so we just give up.

I am a fully qualified Hypnotherapist, a member of The Hypnotherapy Association and I abide by their strict code of ethics. I am also a Master Hypnotist accredited by the American Board of Hypnotherapy (ABH). Your session is confidential and my role is to guide you in making the changes you want.
