Anxiety can range from a slight feeling of butterflies in your tummy to extreme panic and panic attacks.  Feeling anxious is a normal natural response and is appropriate and beneficial  in some situations as it puts us on a heighted state of alert, and triggers out fight/flight response so we can protect ourselves and avoid real danger.

However when anxiety starts to interfere with your daily life, causes you to avoid situations or becomes out of proportion to the situation it is no longer beneficial and can become detrimental to your physical and emotional wellbeing.

Physical symptoms include:

  • Racing heartbeat
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chest tightness
  • Dry mouth
  • Butterflies in stomach
  • Nausea
  • Pins and needles
  • Trembling
  • Weak legs/Shaking hands
  • Dizziness
  • Inner tension
  • Hot or cold sweats

Feeling anxious is a state of mind… and our state of mind is created by our thoughts.  If we spend our time replaying upsetting experiences from the past or worrying about what might go wrong in the future we can recreate past anxiety or even create anxiety about situations that have never and may never actually happen. 

Psychological symptoms include:
