Tips to Feel Happier and More Positive

Spring is finally here although a little lacking in the sunshine department! So many people have said to me over the last few weeks they need some sun to feel better. Well short of being able to send everyone on holiday, here are a few tips to help you feel happier and more positive. I hope they tide you over until the promised summer sunshine arrives!

The first tip is a favourite of mine – it works well with whatever situation you imagine as our minds cannot tell the difference between a real and a vividly imagined experience, so once I’ve finished this post I’m going to close my eyes for a few minutes, feel the warmth of the golden sun bathing  my skin and the gentle sea breeze ruffling my hair as I listen to the tranquil sound of the gentle waves of the perfect turquoise ocean greeting the shore……

  • Remember a time when you felt fantastic – close your eyes and take yourself back to that situation now, see what you saw, hear what you heard and feel how good you felt.  Now just suppose you could intensify that feeling and feel even better!  You can close your eyes whenever you want and remember to feel fantastic!
  • Go outside and walk for ten minutes, all the time looking up to the sky, perhaps noticing tree tops, chimney pots and twinkling stars.  Raising your eyes raises your spirits!
  • Practise looking at negative situations differently.  The way you look at a situation determines how you feel.  For example if you are fed up with your job, you could be glad you have one and aware that you can choose to look for a different one.
  • Random acts of kindness – studies have shown when we help another we feel good and so do they, so do a ‘random act of kindness’ and you’ll have two happier people for the price of one!
  • Laugh!  Watch your favourite comedy, spend time with people that make you laugh or remember a time when you laughed until you cried – who were you with? Where were you?  What were you doing?  Laughter really is excellent medicine and it’s free!
  • Move your body.  Get up and move in any way you like – physical movement changes the chemical balance in your brain and releases ‘feel good’ chemicals.  Jump up and down, go for a brisk walk, dance around your kitchen to your favourite music – do something, anything to move your body regularly.

The above techniques are simple yet effective.  Face to face there are many ways I can help you with personalised treatment to get rid of baggage and teach you how to use your mind to create the future you want.  Please feel free to call me for a chat to discuss how.

My next blog will be about memories past and future…coming very soon…please revisit.

Love this, very sensible and practical and they work. Your post is not condescending to those that are suffering but supportive and empathetic.
